When you equip the Pistol, you might expect a powerful Hand Cannon of a revolver, especially given that the manual describes it as firing. Not helping things is that explosions in this game are bigger than they look. This makes it extremely likely to blow up much-needed dynamite (the only way to kill Hulks reliably) by accident, or worse, have an enemy blow it up when you're trying to grab it. Certain kinds of ammunition pickups also double as this game's equivalent to Exploding Barrels. And what's more, the keys are tiny, dark-colored in dark environments, and often hidden, which makes it very easy to miss a key, walk up to a door you can't open, and then be forced to backtrack across the entire level to track it down. but every single key is visually identical, and the game doesn't indicate which key goes to which door. The game more or less averts Interchangeable Antimatter Keys, in that every key can only be used with a specific door. Also, their main attack throws off your aim, which does not go well with a small enemy. Not a threat at all, but they're so noisy and obnoxious, they'll be a priority target for you after a while purely for the sake of silence. Jackalopes are small, fast and hard to get good aim on. Expect to spend at least 6 shells on one, and even then all of them have to be full hits with no missed pellets.
Dogs are tremendously fast and move erratically, on top of being ridiculously tough for their tier. 
Billy Ray is uncannily accurate with his shotgun even at longer ranges, at a range where he'll do little more than harass you. You can use it exclusively and still not run out of juice for it provided you don't miss too often. Each fire action is a burst of 3 shots that only consumes one ammo, and each new arm gives you 25. It's a guaranteed drop every time you gib a Hulk, is a One-Hit Kill on Old Coot and Billy Ray clones, wastes a dog in three, and it's all-around powerful. Evil Is Sexy: The Alien Vixen is a blue-skinned space babe wearing black latex dominatrix gear and a gimp mask, and is armed with teat-mounted machine guns ( no lie, they're literally called "Teat Guns") and wielding a dildo whip that fires plasma blasts.
